Right Said Fred star says hit song helped date ladies

They're celebrating a quarter of a century in the music business and 90s pop band Right Said Fred are about to burst back onto the pop scene.

In an interview with This Morning on Tuesday, brothers Richard, 63, and Fred Fairbrass talked about their hit pop song and gay anthem, I'm Too Sexy...

Eamonn Holmes asked them what difference the tune had make to their lives and Fred said: 'Financially, obviously... and I could date girls who couldn't talk to me before.

'I became quite the bachelor,' he continued, while laughing. 'We were very lucky. We got flown around the world on other people's money to go out and play.'

Ruth Langsford said: 'You had no idea when you wrote that song, of the phenomenal success?' 'Not a clue,' Richard responded. 

While the interview appeared to be going rather well, Ruth brought up a time some years ago, in which Richard suffered an epic meltdown.

Eamonn Holmes asked them what difference the hit had make to their lives and Fred said: 'Financially, obviously... and I could date girls who couldn't talk to me before'

He continued: 'I became quite the bachelor,' he continued, while laughing. 'We were very lucky. We got flown around the world on other people's money to go out and play'

She said: 'You are always fun but you did have a diva period. Some years back, we gave you a Rear Of The Year award but you threw one of your artist's strops and sent it back.'

'Yes, I was irritable,' he said. 'I was annoyed it wasn't my face [that got an award.] I am quite pretty. But if I got it now, I would be pleased.'

He also spoke about their hit song being used on a Fruitella advert. 

'It wasn't my voice,' he said. 'I think I refused to do it during another one of my artist's strops. They got a soundalike.'

Richard also said that people often get them confused but he cannot understand why, saying: 'I am the pretty one. Fred is not.'

The brothers said they have been working on their new album for the past two years, and it will be released in March following a five year break from the music industry.

They admit they have had a sad time of it recently, having lost their mother to Alzheimer's aged 92 last year.

In 2010 Richard, who came out as bisexual in The Sun in 1991, lost his long-term partner Stuart Pantry to cancer at the age of 45. 

In January, he said, 'I moved out of [my mum's] house and started a new relationship — with a girl actually.'
